EMG helps the clinician to monitor muscle movement and contraction that are working in a dysfunctional way. It is necessary to give the patient a basic explanation of the relationships between muscle contraction, stress and perceived facial pain.

Patient should understand how stress may cause muscles to contract, and prolonged or frequent contraction of muscles causes and may sustain facial pain. This explanation is helpful for the patient's management of stress.
