| OUR TECHNOLOGY • Digital Radiography
Computerized imaging system that uses an electronic sensor instead of X-Ray film which allows for 90% less radiation than with regular X-Ray films.
• The Wand – Computerized Dental Injections
At Dr. Ordonez office we also have available The Wand, new technology that alleviates the pain and anxiety associated with anesthetics injections. The Wand has also other advantages as it provides localized numbness precisely in the area where the procedure is going take place as opposed to numbness in your whole mouth. Injections are pain free since the injection pressure is computer controlled delivering the precise needed amount of anesthesia.
• Laser
Used for Soft Tissue Procedures, hardening fillings and whitening, the use of lasers in Dentistry have revolutionized our field as it allows dental procedures to be done in a faster, pain-less, easier and precise way.
• Air Abrasion
It was about time that you would be able to forget about the drills and injections! Air Abrasion allows to remove the decay from your teeth without using injections. This new technology works by spraying an abrasive powder under pressure that removes small areas of tooth structure without touching other parts of your teeth, thus preserving more of your natural enamel.
• Intraoral Camera
Fully digital small color camera that provides the highest quality of intraoral video that allows us to document what is seen in the mouth of our patients by uploading it to a computer screen. This technology let us present our patients what the inside of their mouth looks like improving patient education and a better disease detection. Often, patients are unaware of the conditions that exist in their mouth so this becomes an excellent tool to help educate our patients.
• TMJ Diagnostic and Treatment
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder is the term used to describe the conditions or full array of symptoms such as difficulty, pain or both when opening your mouth; getting your jaw stuck, locked, or that it goes out; difficulty, pain, or both when chewing, talking, or using your jaw; noises in the jaw joint; jaws that regularly feel stiff, tired, or tight; pain in or about the ears, temples, or cheeks; frequent headaches, neckaches or unexplained toothaches. This term is used as its symptoms includes the jaw joints or the muscles that controls them.
These two joints, one on either side of your head, serve as the connection
between your mandible and your skull. The mandible is not actually part of the skull, but rather a separate entity that is literally hung by muscles, tendons, and ligaments. When these joints suffer a dysfunction, they can cause many problems such as the ones described earlier.
TMJ symptoms can be very frustrating. Patients suffering from TMJ have not found relief from their primary care providers or other specialists so they have to learn to live with it.
The goal of the following diagnostic
tests is to provide individual and precise treatment plans that most often lead to elimination of pain.
• EMG (Electromyography)
EMG helps the clinician to monitor muscle movement and contraction that are working in a dysfunctional way. It is necessary to give the patient a basic explanation of the relationships between muscle contraction, stress and perceived facial pain. Patient should understand how stress may cause muscles to contract, and prolonged or frequent contraction of muscles causes and may sustain facial pain. This explanation is helpful for the patient's management of stress.
• Digital Bite Analysis
Occlusion is a concept used to describe how upper and lower teeth fit together when biting. In other words, Occlusion is how your teeth come together when you close your jaw, it is influenced by three primary components: (1) teeth, (2) nerves and muscles, and (3) bones. If teeth are properly aligned all the components that make up the occlusal system (teeth, nerves, muscles, and bones) should function in harmony. Digital Bite Analysis is a diagnostic procedure that allows us to study the patients bite and what treatment is required to correct it.
• Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a very important tool in the treatment of TMJ dysfunction as it teaches patients to be alert to excessive and inappropriate muscle activity at the same time that it helps them to develop muscle relaxation skills. Biofeedback provides the patient with an understanding of pain and an improved sense of control that helps to relieve stress, anxiety and depression.
• Energex System
Energex is a new fast, non-invasive treatment that uses pulsed radio-frequency energy to substantially reduce pain and improve TMJ symptoms. Completely non-invasive with no pain or discomfort to our patients, it works by creating a low level electrical stimulation in the tissue and thus
